SkyWatch Friday;

SkyWatch Friday

Today for SkyWatch I have chosen a botanical theme.

In my part of the world spring has arrived, I thought a fresh, opening flower of the spectacular native Protea species Banksia integrifolia and a soft blue spring sky would just be right. What do you think?
Please click on picture for a better view.

Banksia integrifolia, commonly known as Coast Banksia, is a species of tree that grows along the east coast of Australia.

It was known to Indigenous Australians before its discovery and naming by Europeans; for example, the Gunai people of Gippsland called it Birrna.Because of its wide range it would have a name in a number of other indigenous languages, but these are now lost. In 2001, a search of historical archives for recorded indigenous names of Victorian flora and fauna failed to find a single name for the species.

(If you would like to know more about B.integrifolia or other Banksia species please go to http://wikipedia.com

Enjoy SkyWatch Friday.

This is another beautiful photograph of a plant I just never heard of.

My Sky Watch Friday blog is at my Canon Pixels blog. If you have time I would appreciate your having a look at the sky peeking through the oak tree leaves.

Very beautiful. I love flowers in front of sky. When I first started reading blogs, it was spring for me and fall for you and others in the southern hemisphere. Blogging makes me see the difference almost daily. But now that it's nearing autumn here and you have spring, it seems completely crazy to me! I wonder why the other way didn't seem so unnatural. I'm sure I'll be envious of you in the dead of our winter!

I find it astouding that people have never heard of a flower that we Australians seem to almost take for granted. You have captured this beautiful and have shown the sky off to great effect.

The Banksia certainly is set off against the blue sky. Nice theme.

Your spring is soooo much more advanced than ours. Our Wisteria is
not even in bud yet. While we are atarting to harvest our oranges, yours are already flowering!

Thank you very much for your visit to my blog and for your nice and kind comment. And thank you for opened your garden gate for me to see and to enjoy its beauty. Isn't it interesting that spring has arrived there while autumn is around a corner in my part of the world? Your spring flower and spring sky are really lovely.
I am also interested in your other blog „Under a hotter Sun“. It will take me some time to read some articles that you have posted there so I'll come back to it as soon as I can.
