A "leafy" day;

The pretty new leaf of a Banana. It is a cross between a Ladies finger banana and a Cavendish. It makes a small tree, produces many Banana hands, very sweet and tasty, and it is easy to harvest the Bananas.

Part of the huge fronds of the giant King fern.

Happy Plant, Dracaena, the sun enhances the golden varigation.

Coleus, Solenostemon, looks pretty with its " lime coloured crochet" around the burgundy leaves.

Philodendron selloum; has very attractive, huge leaves up to 90 cm.

Elkhorn fern, Microsorum punctatum cristatum, growing on the trunk of a native Bangalow Palm.

Believe it or not:
"There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need -- but not for man's greed." - M. Ghandi.

I am surprised with the size of those beautiful leaves which look so beautiful and decorative. Out of that collection I’ve only seen Coleus in private. Thanks for sharing this beautiful post.

Once again something delicious in your garden, bananas. As I've probably mentioned before I so not enjoy the concistency of bananas, but the flavour is lovely. I also remember that in Madeira they grow smaller bananas and they were indeed wonderful and different from the "regular" ones we enjoy having shipped from *somewhere* as we don't have the climate for growing our own here in Scandinavia.

I like large leaves and tropical plants seem to have the biggest. I'll have to make do with a Banana plant in a pot - if it's still alive that is.
BTW - your Hippeastrum seeds have come up!

As I scrolled down looking at all the pretty leaves, I gasped audibly when I saw the coleus. What a beauty!

Diane, no we moved in 1989. Thank you for your comment.

MedaM, I am intrigued with leaves as much as with flowers. Coleus set seed and one gets all the time new patterns. They are great plants as they are not invasive.

Thank you cherry.

Pia thank you for your comment. It is very interesting that you do not like the consistency of certain fruit. The main think you enjoy them in a smoothie!

Denise thank you for your comment.
I am glad they came up. I hope you get some nice patterns and forms.

Thank you Barbee, yes the coleus are, pretty plants and I am always surprised at the patterns they can produce.

Thank you Darla.

Thank you Rowena, You could try Coleus in summer, Bananas unfortunately need a long, warm growing season to produce edible fruit.

hello from Texas! I have family in AU and I want to send them some native trees for planting in memory of a loved one. Can you recommend a site that I can order trees to be shipped to QLD? thank-you!

Great leaves - and wonderful to think of you picking bananas.

Maracuya, It depends where they live in Queensland. Tropical, sub-tropical, dry...etc. It also depends how big the trees grow. Do they live on a small suburban block or on acreage. Near the sea or out west. Native trees grow in specific places. Please google Tree Nurseries Queensland, to make your choice. I wanted to contact you directly but your site is not available.

I am so glad you also share the leaves as well as the flowers. I do enjoy them and I love the fact that you identify each one. A great learning experience coming here. Thank you so much :)))

I just love that banana leaf! They are so fresh and green when they first emerge don't you think?

Denise,
Midlife Jobhunter,
Bangchick,
Happy Mouffetard,
MO,
thank you so much for your interesting comments.
Michelle, yes I like the fresh Banana leaves. This small type of B.tree is not so prone to have the leaves shredded by wind and rain as the tall ones do.

Barbara

Barbara danke fuer deinen
Besuch.

I love the Coleus. I've never seen one such a lovely raspberry pink as that one. And the edging really sets it off.
